Why was the European Union created?
The European Union was created to unite the countries of Europe and to provide peace making suggestions to make life for it's citizens easier and more enjoyable. The European Union only had six members when it was first formed but the number of members has expanded over the years.
Give a thorough history of the EU.

  • In 1951 the idea of the European Coal and Steal Community was proposed by the Schuman Declaration which had a mere six members.
  • In 1957 the same group established the European Economic Community, other wise known as a common market with the Treaty of Rome.
  • In 1973 the Schuman Declaration expanded to nine members, those three members added on were Denmark, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
  • In 1979 the first election votes for parliament take place forming the tradition that these elections take place every five years.
  • In 1980's three more countries joined the Schuman Declaration, those three were Spain, Portugal and Greece.
  • In 1993 the single market was finished by the Communist president, Jacques Delors.
  • In 1989 the Berlin Wall fell and united Germany, thus slowly removing parts of the Soviet Union.
  • In 1993 the European Union, a council formed of presidents and priministers was formed.
  • In 1995 Sweden, Austria and Finland joined the European union, making a total of 15 countries.
  • In 1999 the EU created the Euro, a common currency for all the countries of the EU.

In general the European Union's purpose to maintain a good unitfied group of countries, that would sustain different issues of globalization and to uphold peace and stability for Europe's citizens.

How does the EU benefit Europeans?


  • The EU has given citizens the ability to travel, work and live anywhere they please. Also feelings of success and accomplishment may create better outlooks on other countries.
  • The EU has raised standards for poor areas throughout Europe.
  • The EU has helped more that 2 million young students learn a new language
  • The EU has cause peace throughout the members, doing so there hasn't been and wars between the countries (that are members).
  • The EU has made every employer and equal opportunity employers
  • The EU has made attempts to stop global warming
  • The EU ha ruled out animal testing on cosmetics.

Yes, the United Kingdom is a member of the European Union. The UK joined in 1992 becoming one of the twelve founding members. Before the United Kingdom joined the EU it was a member of the previous major council, the European Economic Community.




What are the pros and cons of joining the EU for your country?



· BIG CON: Joining the EU can cause cultural differences to be removed.
· The Single Market of Europe, created by the European Union, has created easy flowing trade passes throughout the country, but it has also caused competition between the top sellers and buyers.
· Also the Single Market has lowered the prices for businesses and started more employment opportunities by doing so.
· The EU has also helped the UK’s beaches, rivers, forests and parks cleaner.
· The EU can reduce independence of a country.


How does the EU benefit your country, whether they are a member or not?

The European Union has made life for the United Kingdom’s citizens very pleasant but some citizens may request improvement in some areas. The European Union has created many new jobs, a cleaner environment created a common trade balance. The European Union has also created a stronger voice for the United Kingdom; since the EU is such a high power their suggestions are more respected.
